Our Baby Unit caters for up to 10 children aged between
3 months and 2.5 years of age and our very experienced
staff are trained in ‘Birth to Three’ Matters and are
chosen for their ability to relate to this age group -
and for their compassion, not only for the children but
also for those parents who are leaving a very young
child for the first time in the care of others.
Staffing: Child ratios in the Baby Unit are kept at a
minimum of 3:1 but we usually have extra staff available
throughout the day which enables us to have a 2:1 staff
ratio during our busiest times.
All of our staff undergo regular CRB checks in order to
ensure that your children are kept safe from harm - and
our staff are required to undertake further training
opportunities in childcare issues, as and when these
arise, in order that your children have the very best
possible learning opportunities available.
Children in our Baby Unit have ample opportunities for
taking part in a wide range of activities including Art
& Craft, Counting, Messy play, Construction play, Role
play, Song and Story sessions, Early Makaton Signing,
Music and Sensory Experiences etc…
This includes a weekly session, for those children who
attend full-time, of Mini Maestros music sessions, Baby
Makaton and Baby Gym
The wide range of equipment and toys available to our
babies has been carefully chosen for the stimulation,
safety and enjoyment of children aged from 3 months – 2½
years of age. These include ‘traditional’ wooden toys,
‘modern’ electronic toys, mobility toys and aids and a
wide range of equipment designed to stimulate their
sensory and educational learning.
Our babies have a divided-off area of the Nursery
garden, which ensures their safety and security whilst
playing outdoors.
A Key-Worker is appointed to each child (and their
parents/carers) when they join our Nursery.
Your Key-Worker will undertake continual observations of
your child and will ensure that you get daily feed-back
through your child’s daily diary and/or in person, and
will also feed-back to the Nursery Management daily.
In addition, all parents can expect a written report
(approximately every 6 months) about their child’s
progress.
Our babies have daily opportunities to visit the main
Nursery, and to interact with the older children and the
staff which ensures that, when they are due to ‘move up’
to the main Nursery, they not only feel confident and
secure but they also have the opportunity to interact
with our ‘Pre-School’ children who help us to look after
them and give them good role models to follow.
sample menu for
fully weaned children
This is just an
example of the food which we serve in the Nursery; our
actual menu rotates over a 4 week period and adaptations
are made for the younger children. Children who are
being weaned will have a daily selection of fresh
vegetables and fresh organic meat and pureed fruits/home
made egg-custards etc. with the occasional use of
proprietary baby foods such as Heinz Organics
